Spirit of the Land.

Spirit of the People.

Lakota, we are the voice of this land, connected to this land and to our past, this strengthens and leads us into a brighter future. Being Lakota is a “way of life” and those values are part of every breath we take. The Lakota people are one of the seven council fires; four Dakota bands Mdewakanton, Wahpekute, Wahpeton, Sisseton, two Nakota bands Yankton, Yanktonai and a Lakota band Teton.

The Lakota are remembered as a very strong and fierce tribe with legendary warriors. To this day we share those stories of battle and triumph with our younger generations as example of how to overcome obstacles in this new era. Our modern warriors and leaders of today are recognized as scholars, entrepreneurs, artists, community outreach activists and role-models that reside in all our communities.

Our Lakota culture is vibrant and alive with creative expressive song and dance that connects us to our ancestors. Their blood flows through our people today. It is our Indigenous Knowledge that will awaken humanity to become better caretakers of our Mother Earth.

This is a land of great expanses ranging from the stark shapes and subtle colors of the Badlands, to the prairies, dotted with wildflowers in the summer, to the buttes and cedars. This is the natural habitat of the buffalo, the prairie dog, deer, antelope, coyotes, and all kinds of other Lakota “relatives.”

Come hear our Lakota voices, our Lakota stories… told by our Lakota people. Learn to see the movement of the land, you’ll learn to understand the movement of the people.
